Barry McGraw, Founder and CLO of Airable Research Lab, explains that Airable is a business line of the Ohio Soybean Council (OSC) dedicated to finding new uses for soybeans. By establishing a research lab solely focused on soy innovation, Airable has facilitated partnerships with industrial and commercial clients to meet the demand for biobased products. McGraw cites successful products like Roof Maxx, a soy-based roofing treatment, and DeWalt bar and chain oil, which have significantly increased soy demand and usage.
Scott Porter, CEO of Dynamic Green Products (DGP), emphasizes the role of DGP as a biobased lubricant manufacturer that collaborates with Airable for soybean product research and development. With funding from the OSC, DGP has successfully commercialized soy-based products and become a leader in the industry. Porter highlights the advantages of using soy, such as supporting American soybean farmers and providing sustainable, high-quality products that outperform petroleum-based alternatives.
Professor Eric Cochran from Iowa State University discusses the collaboration between ISA and his team in developing new soy-based materials. Their research focuses on creating high-performance materials, such as soy-based plastics for wind turbine applications. Cochran explains the mechanical properties of soy-based materials, emphasizing stiffness, strength, and toughness as essential factors in material development. The goal is to produce durable products from soy that benefit both consumers and farmers.
