Madhya Pradesh has seen a significant rise in its national exports, climbing from the 15th to the 11th position in the country. The state recorded a remarkable growth of 6% in the fiscal year 2024-25, with total exports amounting to Rs 70,256 crore. This surge was primarily fueled by the export of pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, and soy-based agricultural products.
The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) highlighted that Madhya Pradesh’s export landscape was diversified, with merchandise exports contributing Rs 66,218 crore and IT firms in Special Economic Zones contributing Rs 4,038 crore to the state’s export figures. This growth trajectory has been instrumental in enhancing the state’s global competitiveness.
According to Suvidh Shah, the additional director general at FIEO, the state’s industrial base has expanded, export infrastructure has improved, and engagement with international markets has deepened, all contributing to the surge in exports. This growth has been a testament to Madhya Pradesh’s economic resilience and its ability to tap into global markets effectively.
Pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, and soy-based agricultural products emerged as the key drivers of Madhya Pradesh’s export success. These sectors have not only propelled the state’s ranking in national exports but have also solidified its position in the global market. The top five export commodities from the state included pharmaceuticals, animal feed, machinery, aluminium, and textiles.
The USA, Bangladesh, France, the UAE, and the Netherlands were among the primary export destinations for Madhya Pradesh. The US, in particular, has been a crucial market for the state, especially for pharmaceuticals and machinery exports. Bangladesh has also emerged as a significant destination for textiles and agricultural products from Madhya Pradesh.
Within the state, Dhar emerged as the top exporting district, with exports amounting to Rs 17,830 crore, closely followed by Indore at Rs 13,500 crore. Ujjain also recorded its highest-ever exports at Rs 2,288 crore, driven by the agro-based products and food processing sectors. The state’s industrial development has been instrumental in fostering innovation and trade relations, ensuring sustained export growth.
Madhya Pradesh’s export story in the fiscal year 2024-25 also witnessed significant growth in rubber, textiles, and starch exports. This uptick was primarily attributed to the surge in industrial-grade rubber exports and the growing demand from global manufacturers, showcasing the state’s versatility and adaptability in meeting market demands.
In conclusion, Madhya Pradesh’s remarkable rise in national exports is a testament to its growing prowess in the global market. With a strategic focus on key sectors and a concerted effort to enhance trade relations, the state has not only elevated its economic standing but has also contributed significantly to India’s overall export growth trajectory.
